Super 8 Series

The latest Craftinsure Super 8 Series results are now online and with 3 events down and only 3 to qualify find out who’s currently topping the table Super 8 Series Results

The Craftinsure Super 8 kicked off with the End of Seasons at Royal Windermere Yacht Club in 2016 which was won by Shane MacCarthy and Andy Thompson to continue their dominant year in the GP14. The first event of 2017 was the Midland Area Championships which gave us some amazingly competitive racing and an event win from the local sailors Pete Gray and Rich Pepperdine.

With only 3 events to qualify for the series we are expecting a bumper year with a good old scrap for end of season prizes. This page is your one-stop-shop for all of the events, race reports and online entry links for the Super 8 series so keep checking back throughout the season.

End of Season Championships
15 & 16 Oct 2016
Royal Windermere Yacht Club

This was a sold out event and with current World and UK National Champs Shane MacCarthy and Andy Thompson in attendance it looked like there was going to be a massive upset after Day 1 as Silver Fleet stars Meg Hicklin and Hayley Ramadhar got the better of the champs and won the day. Day 2 was forecast heavier winds, read the Event Reports to find out what happened.

Midland Area Championships
08  & 09 April 2017
Staunton Harold Sailing Club

It was champagne sailing for the Midlands this year with the breeze ranging from light and shifty to medium/heavy and shifty with sailors passing round the sun cream in the scorching heat. With four different race winners it looked like it could be one of 5 boats that won it until the wind picked up and Pete and Rich cashed in. We had some excellent race management and fantastically close racing. The pics are on the GP14 Facebook Page.

Last time we went to Looe it was for the 2012 Worlds which had 127 boats compete and was shortlisted for Yachts and Yachting event of the year (we lost out to the Olympics!)

In 2017 we are back but for a Nationals so we are looking to keep the event a little more intimate and use the Club facilities rather than the fish market which would need us to guarantee 100+ entry.

However we know this will be a popular event and we are expecting to fill our allocation of 70 entries well before the event. So you better get in there quick, entries open on 01 January 2017!

Taking on board feedback from this year’s events we are also working closer with the Training team and we are pleased to announce that there will be two days of sea training directly prior to the event on Friday 04 and Saturday 05 August. This will give you a great opportunity to find your sea legs, test out the course and ensure you hit the ground running as soon as the event begins.

If you are new to the GP14 Championship circuit we think its super but don’t just take our word for it, Nick Craig did the Worlds in 2016 and is hooked!

“We had a great time at the GP14 Worlds, as well as the fantastic conditions in Barbados, we really enjoyed the close, high quality racing that the GP14 offers. Mistakes were punished and places hard to recover which is how we like it!

“Off the water, the fleet is very friendly and like a few drinks so we had a great time and we will certainly be back for more.”

NOR, SIs and online entry links will be added to our 2017 Nationals event page as soon as they are available.
